More Information
The use of Bangkirai on the terrace

Because of its beautiful, warm, brownish colour and its robustness, Bangkirai is a very popular wood for terrace decking. Bangkirai on the terrace is resistant to insect damage and fungal attack. It is also extremely weather resistant. In our climatic conditions, you can expect the decking boards to last 15 to 25 years.

What you have to pay attention to when buying Bangkirai decking boards

- The Bangkirai decking board is made from a tropical wood, the Southeast Asian Balau. Therefore, the Bangkirai decking board must come from sustainable cultivation. You can recognize this by a corresponding seal. - Since Bangkirai is very popular for terrace and furniture construction, other wood with a similar appearance is often offered under this name. However, this wood usually does not have the positive properties of Bangkirai.
- When buying, make sure that the wood has been seasoned and dried long enough. Otherwise, you can expect the decking boards to warp.

What you should know when working with Bangkirai decking boards

Bangkirai wood is very hard. Therefore, you must always pre-drill holes for screws. You cannot nail these decking boards. The wood is very dense and heavy. As a result, small cracks occasionally appear on the surface. Over time, the yellowish-brown colour of Yellow Balau will darken. The technical term for this is bleeding. This can lead to discolouration, for example on the terrace wall. The Bangkirai wood should not come into contact with iron. This would lead to discolouration of the wood.

How to properly maintain Bangkirai on the terrace

A terrace with planks made of Bangkirai is very robust and durable. Nevertheless, like any wooden construction, it needs a certain amount of care. For routine cleaning of the terrace, a lint-free cloth, warm water and a soapy solution is sufficient. For heavier soiling, a medium-hard brush or fine sandpaper can also be used. In order for the wood to retain its original colour, it must be oiled twice a year.
